With It’s Complicated, SSTR6 / Vinylograph presents three major bodies of work by Austrian photographer Marko Zink from 30 July to 15 August 2026. The exhibition brings together analogue photographic works in which Zink merges humans, animals, machines, and nature into hybrid visual worlds, while questioning photography as a medium of memory and documentation.
For the series Inside the Machine, Marko Zink gained unauthorized access to vacant apartments, concealing himself inside household appliances and pieces of furniture. Nobel Prize-winning author Elfriede Jelinek wrote and recorded a text especially for the series. Produced by Vinylograph as an audio postcard in the form of a square vinyl record, it adds an acoustic dimension to the photographic work.
The series When the Animals Left the Forest focuses on the animal world, exploring the possibilities of animal agency when humans deprive them of their natural habitat. This theme continues in the body of work Tragedies: a human–pig hybrid stands alone in a puddle of water—vulnerable, exposed, and abandoned. Elfriede Jelinek also dedicated a text to this series, writing:
“Are these animals? No, they are us, but with traces of animals. Animals without fantasies of power, which only humans possess.”
