Giovanni Morbin

Performance and post-conceptualist artist Morbin Giovanni was born in Valdagno / Italy in 1956. He makes references to the Italian and world avant-garde and a historically and visual media by using a visual metalanguage as a means of criticism and political commentary on contemporary society. His former and clear communication is uncompromising and Morbin is an artist who is performing a debate about the position, role and responsability oft he artists in a society of questionable values, in the absence of a political and class consciousness. Since 1978 his research has been linked to behavior through performance and, in parallel, he is interested in the construction of objects functional to daily action, to which he gives the value of tools.

1995 he founded TOTAL SURFACE, a container for his actions. From that moment on, his performances are called Hybridizations, hybrid actions characterized from time to time by animal, vegetable, mineral and artificial partners. Over the last few years he has conducted research on the nature of form and image materialized by atomizations of common objects as the ideal artistic reorganization of the world.

His antiquarian or found objects such as vintage photographs or books are cut and treated, time and again bringing out the line that glorifies the fascist symbol. Based on several small-format works, Giovanni Morbin explores a time that took place without him. The work of Giovanni Morbin warns us of what happens when borders are closed and in which ways lines can be drawn. In a minimalist manner he points to the danger of the new rise of extreme right-wing parties all over Europe.
