Mauthausen - The Eradication of Memory Special Exhibition

In 2019, the series was exhibited for the first time - click HERE to view the contribution at that time.

Using the medium of analogue photography, the Vorarlberg-born, Vienna-based artist Marko Zink (* 1975) approaches the horror of the Holocaust. The motif is Mauthausen - a place and synonym for the extermination of tens of thousands of people. He punches, boils or treats the films he uses with chlorine and ink before exposing them. As a result, the photographs look like historical found objects and tell of the extermination of people as well as the eradication of memory. Zink reflects on the transformation from crime scene to memorial site and thus conducts a multi-layered, contextualised search for traces.
